Author's Diary

October 2006

I did it. I turned in the remainder of the manuscript. S&S was really anxious to get the edited manuscript back because they need to get it to the design department. It was another brutal week for me… really long hours, and my eyes feel strained and my hands cramped from the intensity of the work. But alas… it is done. And I feel really great about all the revisions we made. In fact, there wasn't one suggestion among Michelle's that I thought was a bad idea. This whole process is once again making me feel so grateful to be working with people who not only see the potential of this book, but who trust in me as well. It's very nice. Speaking of nice…a long, hot shower and a nap sounds pretty fantastic, too.

Today I had a website redesign meeting with my web designer, Derin, aka, my husband. Derin is going to completely rebuild my website to incorporate my new brand, my new work, and most of all, promote In Their Shoes. I'm so excited about the possibilities of it all. I'm going to start working on the content, while Derin is going to come up with some design comps for me to take a look at. I'm also going to create a blog as well… I know that blogs have been around for a long time and they're not the new, hot thing, but I've been wanting to find a way to directly interact with the teens who contact me and who are interested in the books I'm writing. I also have a lot of thoughts and ideas about issues affecting teens, and want a place to share these and get feedback from the teens who are involved. I'm going to ruminate on it some more, but I feel like it's coming together…
